Love Sucks
$3.99
Love Sucks, especially when you're different than everyone else in the world, especially when you're a teen Haustrix (an extremely rare demon who feeds off of human emotions) and haven't experienced real love and can't touch anyone for fear of draining their emotions -- their love -- for another person.
I enjoyed this book! First off, I thought the premise was unique and the main character's challenge was also unique: How to survive by draining enough human emotion from people to live, but not so much as to drain them of their capacity for love.
I felt a connection to the main character/narrator Mailee almost immediately, as well as to fellow Haustor (love-sucking demon) Eric, and also the diabetic boy she befriends, Logan, who bonds with her because of their shared feelings of being different and isolated because of their respective conditions. Mailee's feelings of being solitary and different, weird, and a loner make her a relatable character. How many teens have similar feelings? (Raising hand. I know I did.)
The story has a love triangle, and a surprise ending (at least for me).
I'd definitely recommend this book and am looking forward to reading more by this author.
